EN: An NTC temperature sensor, or thermistor, allows a modern boiler control board to monitor water temperature. Its electrical resistance changes as temperature changes, giving the PCB information used to regulate burner output and system operation.
Symptoms that may point to an NTC sensor fault
- Unstable or incorrect temperature readings
- Short cycling
- Lukewarm or inconsistent hot water
- Heating or hot-water failure
- Sensor-related fault codes or lockout
A fault code does not always mean the thermistor itself has failed. Damaged wiring, poor connections, moisture, incorrect sensor seating or a PCB issue can create similar symptoms. A technician should test the circuit against the manufacturer’s specifications.
Why compatibility matters
NTC sensors that look alike can have different resistance curves, connectors, seals and intended positions. The correct replacement should therefore be identified using the boiler model and original part reference rather than appearance alone.
